Sherry King

Sherry King (She/Her)
Executive Director

Sherry joined the Genesis Centre team in 2011 prior to the completion of the Genesis Centre. Prior to that she was a key volunteer with the NECCS Board of Directors “Completing the Dream Together” Capital Campaign with one of her fondest memories being the ground-breaking ceremony of the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness shared with her middle son. Sherry has lived, worked and been heavily involved in North East Calgary her entire life. She strongly believes in giving back and the need for strong communities. She is a busy mother of 3 boys who enjoys getting out and being active especially with Geocaching, camping and hiking.

Nadeem Khan

Nadeem Khan (He/Him)
Finance & HR Manager

Nadeem is a dedicated professional in the fields of Finance, admin and HR. He carries a degree in business administration. Before joining the Genesis administration team, he was on the Board and was member of Audit & Finance Committee for over six years. After moving to Canada in 2008, he worked for almost nine years with the City of Calgary in the fields of general administration, HR and Finance. Nadeem has been a passionate volunteer for over 30 years. He enjoys camping and hiking and the wonderful fresh mountain air.

Jonah Ardiel

Jonah Ardiel (He/Him)
Business Development Manager

Jonah first joined the Genesis Centre in 2017 under a one-year contract as part of the federal Canada 150 program. In 2018, he joined the organization’s Board of Directors, and then in 2019 was hired as the Business Development Manager. Jonah brings expertise in the fields of marketing and communications, organizational strategy, program coordination, and a broad knowledge of not-for-profits and charities across Calgary. Recreationally, Jonah spends as much time outdoors as he can hiking, cycling, jogging, and downhill skiing.

Shakil Shivji

Shakil Shivji (He/Him)
Guest Experience Manager

Shakil, or Shak, joined the Genesis Centre back in 2017 and has been part of many different teams within the Genesis Centre. His front line experience includes being a Guest Services Associate, Facility Attendant, and Shift Lead. Serving the community has always been a big part of his life. Shak has a background in Guest Services, Psychology, and Computer Science. In his social pursuits, Shak actively engages in physical activities, immerses himself in the world of music as a private DJ, and dedicates his time to contributing to the Ismaili Muslim Community in diverse roles.

Sukhvinder Malhotra

Sukhvinder Malhotra 
President

With a background in IT, Sukhvinder has been volunteering in the community through various roles since moving to Calgary from Ontario in 2007. He started building community connections by volunteering as a soccer coach for 4 years. He was involved with Khalsa School Calgary for 13 years since its opening in 2007, as Chairperson of the Parent Advisory Council and held various positions on the School Board for over 9 years, including the Board Chairperson. Sukhvinder has also been a part of the Nelson Mandela Parent Council and currently serves on the Saddle Ridge Community Association Board, as President of the Raven Ridge Condo Board and as a White Hat volunteer at Calgary Airport. He has a passion for giving back to the community in every way possible.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh 
Vice-President

Yuvraj Singh is an advocate for cultural competency, youth mentorship, and community development. He completed his Bachelors of Science from the University of Calgary and is now in his second-year of law student at the University of Calgary. He activates community members through his volunteer initiatives serving the less fortunate through food drives, mentorship through debate and youth Parliament and community building by providing strategic governance on various boards and nonprofits. In the legal community, Yuvraj volunteers with Pro Bono Students Canada to provide legal resources for Temporary Foreign Workers and will be working in Corporate/Commercial Litigation in downtown Calgary after the completion of his Law degree. His contributions have been recognized as a City of Calgary Youth Award recipient, Top 20 Under 25, Immigrant of Distinction 2020, and a Face of the Community Award recipient.

Amrinder Singh

Amrinder Singh 
Treasurer

Amrinder Singh, a Calgary resident since 2016 with a commerce background, transformed his passion for travel into a profession by founding the Canadian Travel House in 2016. The company earned IATA accreditation in 2022, showcasing Amrinder’s dedication to excellence. Serving as the Treasurer on the Executive Board of the Calgary & Cricket District League, established in 1908, he actively contributes to sports development and community engagement. Beyond his professional roles, Amrinder is distinguished by his keen eye for detail and sincere commitment to community betterment, exemplified through his innovative contributions to both the business landscape and the Calgary community he proudly calls home.

Al Louie

Albert (Al) Louie
Secretary

Born and raised in northeast Calgary, Al is passionate about helping individuals, organizations, and communities reach their full potential.  Professionally, he is an experienced public servant that has led economic analysis for the Government of Ontario, budgeting processes for the City of Calgary, and energy and environmental initiatives for the Government of Canada. Outside of work, he enjoys running, travelling, attending athletic and cultural events, and volunteering on his condo board. Al holds a Bachelor of Arts from Gonzaga University, a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto, and is completing a Certificate in Organizational Coaching from the University of British Columbia.

Israr Kasana

Israr Kasana is a media/communication and public affairs professional with over two decades of experience across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He brings a thoughtful, governance-focused approach to his work, grounded in a strong commitment to public service and building inclusive communities. Over the course of his career, Israr has led strategic initiatives, built meaningful partnerships, and worked closely with government, industry, and community leaders on public policy, communications, and engagement. His work reflects a deep understanding of how collaboration and dialogue can create lasting impact. Beyond his professional roles, Israr is deeply engaged in community life and is passionate about creating platforms that bring people together and give voice to diverse perspectives. He believes in the power of connection, inclusion, and shared spaces to strengthen communities and foster a true sense of belonging.

Wes Hynd

Wesley (Wes) Hynd

Wes, a community-focused leader with 15 years in non-profits, currently serves as a local church pastor and Community Association board member. He and his wife, Nadine, moved to Northeast Calgary to engage with and contribute to their community. They enjoy activities like playing with neighborhood kids, hosting gatherings, and fostering a safe environment. They are also in the process of adopting a child from Thailand. Wes previously worked with a student organization at Calgary’s universities, facilitating mentoring and discussions on life’s big questions, as well as directing overseas missions and partnerships in Latin America. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando. Wes is passionate about soccer, music, philosophy, and learning languages.

Jarod Tsang

Director-at-large

A lifelong Calgarian, Jarod is inspired by his own experiences in sports and passionate about giving back to local communities. He has a long history in amateur sports as a former competitive swimmer and understands the lasting impact sports can have in bringing communities together. Professionally, Jarod is a CPA and a financial consultant for clients primarily in the federal government, providing advisory services in areas such as costing and strategy. While Jarod no longer swims, you can find him in his free time at the pool coaching, on the mats at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or otherwise exploring a new country.

Sabah Vayani

Drawing from her immigrant journey, Sabah brings a personal ‎commitment to societal ‎‎transformation, where ‎equity and inclusion are not just goals but guiding principles. Currently serving within ‎‎the National ‎Resettlement Assistance Program of Canada, she brings a nuanced understanding of the ‎public ‎service ‎landscape, navigating its complexities with insight into both challenges and opportunities. This ‎experience ‎exemplifies her approach to program design and implementation, highlighting the ‎interconnectedness ‎of the ecosystem and the value of interdisciplinary synergy. Sabah is dedicated to fostering a collaborative ‎approach that blends diverse perspectives, believing that every voice contributes to the greater ‎whole, ‎driving systemic change through cohesive and ‎inclusive actions. At the Genesis Centre, she has found the ‎ideal platform to merge her personal and professional aspirations, enabling her to advance the Centre’s ‎mission in addressing the diverse needs of its patrons. Outside of her work life, Sabah channels her artistic ‎energy into surface design, DIY projects and food adventures. Finding endless inspiration in the vibrant world ‎around her, she is constantly exploring new ideas and creative outlets.

Alok Gupta

A seasoned IT professional with over two decades of experience in leading large-scale programs and technology transformation initiatives, he brings strong strategic insight, governance experience, and a results-oriented mindset. His global perspective and collaborative approach enable him to contribute effectively to organizational growth, oversight, and long-term strategic planning. Born in Delhi, India, and now a proud Canadian citizen, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Technology (Computer Science) and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). For over eight years, he has been deeply committed to community service, actively participating in volunteer and cultural initiatives across Calgary. His involvement reflects a strong passion for giving back, supporting inclusive communities, and contributing to meaningful social impact. Outside of his professional and volunteer commitments, he enjoys traveling and exploring diverse cultures with his family. He believes that the strength of community begins at home, and that any place becomes truly meaningful and beautiful when shared with loved ones.

Chris Lane

Chris Lane is a Director of Sport at WinSport, where he leads a diverse portfolio of year-round programming with a focus on participant growth, athlete development, and community access. He brings a strategic and governance-oriented perspective to the Board, with deep experience in facility optimization and financial stewardship. Overseeing operations for tens of thousands of participants annually, Chris is well-versed in budget management, fiscal responsibility, and risk oversight required to sustain complex community hubs. In addition to his professional role, Chris contributes to a sector-wide governance perspective as a member of the Canada West Snow School Directors Committee and is a passionate advocate for inclusion through his work with the Calgary Adaptive Hub. Chris is committed to the Genesis Centre’s mission of building healthy community connections and believes in the power of strong board leadership to create sustainable pathways for community development. Outside of work, Chris enjoys an active lifestyle and spending time with his young family.

Daniel Balcorta

Director-at-large


Daniel Balcorta is a strategic business and community development leader based in Calgary, Alberta, with extensive experience in building and advising organizations across sport, international partnerships, and community-focused initiatives. He is the President and Founder of the International Football Association – IFA7, a global organization dedicated to the development and governance of seven-a-side football, working with partners across multiple countries to structure competitions, build institutional frameworks, and expand participation in the sport. Daniel brings a strong background in strategic growth, stakeholder engagement, and revenue development, having led initiatives that connect public, private, and community sectors. His experience spans international negotiations, partnership development, and the creation of scalable models that support long-term organizational sustainability. At the local level, Daniel has been actively involved in grassroots sport and community programming in Calgary, contributing to initiaves that promote youth development, access to sport, and community engagement. As a member of the Genesis Centre Board of Directors, Daniel is focused on supporting strong governance practices, sustainable growth, and the continued role of the centre as a key hub for community connection and wellness in Northeast Calgary.
