The Genesis Centre is a 225,000 square foot multi-purpose complex dedicated to enriching the health, wellness, and unity of Northeast Calgary.
The Genesis Centre encompasses half of the multi-purpose complex and includes the following facilities:
- Two Indoor Field Houses
- Feature Gymnasium & Event Centre (30,000 sq. ft)
- Community Gymnasium (9,800 sq. ft)
- Multi-Purpose Rooms
- Various Meeting and Boardrooms
- Community Kitchen & Catering Prep Room
The Genesis Centre is not only a venue for sport and recreation, but a place which caters to the diverse interests of the community. Facility spaces are capable of hosting everything from cultural events, social occasions, and performing arts, to business oriented uses such as trade shows, conferences, and corporate team building.
In addition to the Genesis Centre facilities the complex also encompasses a YMCA and a branch of the Calgary Public Library.
Our story
In 1994, a group of committed community volunteers approached the City of Calgary with a vision. They dreamed of building a community centre in Northeast Calgary to meet the growing and unique recreation, sport, culture, and educational needs of the residents. This facility was to become a community hub for continues to be the most culturally diverse quadrant of the city.
In 2011, Genesis Land Development Corporation committed to a 15-year naming agreement for the facility prior to opening under the name of The Genesis Centre of Community Wellness.
In 2012, The Genesis Centre opened its doors to the public and saw over one million visits in its first year alone. In addition to the full complement of fitness, health, and recreation services, the complex provides the facilities for large cultural events and activities as well as urgently needed indoor and outdoor soccer fields. It also provides access to a range of human and social services through 1000 Voices, a community and human services wing inside the facility which is now called the Community Wing.

The Genesis Centre plays a critical role in building community, promoting and fostering wellness, and modelling a new approach for future recreation and community centres.
The Genesis Centre publishes an Annual Report outlining the high level achievements of the facility along with the financial statements.
