80 Avenue N.E. & 64 Avenue N.E. Public Engagement April 14 – 30, 2021

In 2020, The Northeast Stoney Crossing Study began examining the feasibility of flyovers over Stoney Trail at 80 Avenue N.E. and 64 Avenue N.E. and to determine the preferred network connections for the area. Using public feedback and technical analysis, The City has now selected a recommended concept for both 80 Avenue N.E. and 64 Avenue N.E.

Recommended Concept

The project team explored three concepts for connections across Stoney Trail and evaluation included consideration of both public feedback and technical analysis. The recommendation includes:

• A single lane flyover on 80 Avenue N.E. that would service emergency services, transit, and active modes, but would not accommodate public vehicular traffic.
• A four-lane flyover on 64 Avenue N.E. (two-lane in the medium-term, four-lane in the long-term) that would accommodate all modes of travel.

Please note, for both 64 Avenue N.E. and 80 Avenue N.E. the flyover will not include access to or from Stoney Trail.

Next Steps

The 80 Avenue N.E. flyover was previously approved by Council in 2018, as part of the East Stoney Area Structure Plan, to accommodate access for emergency services, transit, pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to the area. Since the recommended flyover concept is the same as what was previously approved and funded by Council, construction on the 80 Avenue N.E. flyover is planned to start in 2022.
