Genesis Centre’s Loveleen Kapoor Nominated for Prestigious Calgary White Hat Award
We are proud to share that Loveleen Kapoor, Community Wing Coordinator at Genesis Centre, has been nominated for a Calgary White Hat Award in the Exceptional Service: Reception & Reservations category.
Presented annually by Tourism Calgary, the White Hat Awards recognize individuals in Calgary’s tourism and hospitality sectors who go above and beyond to create exceptional experiences for visitors and guests. Now in its 63rd year, the awards celebrate service ambassadors who exemplify Calgary’s welcoming spirit, professionalism, and commitment to helping others.
For anyone who has had the opportunity to interact with Loveleen, this recognition comes as no surprise. As Community Wing Coordinator, Loveleen serves as one of the first points of contact for the thousands of individuals and families who visit Genesis Centre each year. While many people know Genesis Centre for its recreation and event spaces, the facility is also home to a vibrant Community Wing that brings together a diverse network of organizations and services under one roof.
The Community Wing serves newcomers, families, youth, seniors, job seekers, and community members seeking support, connection, and opportunity. Through partnerships with community agencies and service providers, visitors can access settlement services, employment support, health and wellness resources, family programs, food security initiatives, and community-building activities.
The impact of this work is significant. So far this year, the Community Wing has facilitated more than 13,400 rental hours for community organizations and programs, generated over 13,000 hours of booked community use, referred nearly 300 individuals to essential services, supported approximately 7,200 clients through the Genesis Centre Satellite Food Bank, and welcomed more than 2,400 residents through Active Adults programming. These numbers reflect the important role the Community Wing plays in strengthening social connections and improving quality of life across Northeast Calgary.
For many visitors, particularly newcomers to Canada, Genesis Centre is often their first introduction to community supports available in Calgary. Helping people navigate those services is where Loveleen shines.

What truly sets Loveleen apart is her ability to create genuine human connections. Her White Hat Award nomination was inspired by a powerful example of service involving a newcomer family who arrived at Genesis Centre feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. Facing language barriers and unfamiliarity with available support, the family needed guidance, reassurance, and a welcoming face.
Loveleen immediately stepped in, greeting them in their first language and helping them feel comfortable and understood. She took the time to learn about their situation, connect them with appropriate community resources, and provide information about services, transportation options, and opportunities available throughout the community. More importantly, she ensured they felt welcomed — not simply as visitors to the facility, but as valued members of the community.
The impact of that interaction extended far beyond a single day. Through Loveleen’s support, the family successfully connected with local services and became active participants in community programs. Their experience reflects the same compassion, professionalism, and care that Loveleen brings to every interaction.
In a community as diverse as Northeast Calgary, Loveleen’s ability to communicate across cultures and languages helps ensure that every visitor feels welcomed, respected, and supported from the moment they arrive.
