Reflecting on this year's stampede breakfast
Stampede Spirit – How the NE Celebrated
Another year of the Stampede has passed, and as we hang up our cowboy hats, we’d like to take this time to look back at this year’s unforgettable breakfast! This 100-year-old tradition brings western hospitality to the forefront. From the sizzle of the griddles to the smiles of families enjoying the live entertainment, this event truly showcases Calgary’s cowboy spirit. On July 11, the Genesis Centre hosted its own breakfast, featuring musical entertainment, face painting, carnival games, a petting zoo, and pop-up stands where multiple NE shops showed off the diverse contributions to the community! This year was jam-packed with delicious food, including fluffy pancakes, sausages, and refreshing juice. It was an incredible turnout, with over 3,000 attendees coming together to enjoy a vibrant gathering.
What It Represents
The Stampede allows people to engage with their community by participating in local culture and traditions while also forming bonds with the city they live in. It celebrates Canada’s inclusion and diversity, representing all communities coming together to partake in “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.” This year, like many before, we came together to participate in this shared tradition allowing past generations to bridge the gap between new generations through the preservation of these customs.
Local Thoughts
Here are some of the thoughts shared by locals on the Stampede Breakfast and how it has affected them:
“It’s a generational tradition that my parents shared and made memories with me and now I would love to share those same experiences with my children.”
“Celebrating our community coming together and bridging cultural divides through music and dancing.”
“Seeing the community come together to enjoy these activities makes me feel proud to be a part of the NE.”
The Future of the Stampede
The Stampede has been a crucial part of Calgary’s history, symbolizing unity and pride, and reminding everyone that they belong here. This tradition has grown so much over the last hundred years that it has impacted generations of Canadians.
With each passing year, these breakfasts become more than just an event, they have become a gathering place to celebrate cherished traditions and strengthen people’s connection to the city they call home. As Calgary continues to grow and welcome people from all walks of life, the Stampede will evolve with it, celebrating our diversity, strengthening community bonds, and showcasing the spirit that makes this city truly unique.
