Winterizing Your Rain Barrel
So you’ve used your rain barrel to collect free rainwater for your yard this year. Well, with a few quick actions to keep your barrel from cracking when the cold weather arrives, you’ll continue to save money for years to come!
- Remove the black hose and store it for next spring
- Turn your barrel upside down and drain completely
- Move your barrel to a garage/shed if you can but if you’re leaving it outdoors, store it upside down and secure it to prevent damage and water accumulating
- Reconnect the downspout to allow melting snow to drain away from your foundation
