Sherry King (She/Her)
Executive Director
Sherry joined the Genesis Centre team in 2011 prior to the completion of the Genesis Centre. Prior to that she was a key volunteer with the NECCS Board of Directors “Completing the Dream Together” Capital Campaign with one of her fondest memories being the ground-breaking ceremony of the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness shared with her middle son. Sherry has lived, worked and been heavily involved in North East Calgary her entire life. She strongly believes in giving back and the need for strong communities. She is a busy mother of 3 boys who enjoys getting out and being active especially with Geocaching, camping and hiking.
Mohammad Zahed (He/Him)
Executive Assistant
Mohammad joined the Genesis Centre in 2014 as a Facility Attendant and has since worn many hats to help improve operations. Working with the Guest Services department during his time at university, he gained front line experience as well as leadership experience in his role as a Shift Lead and Supervisor. Mohammed also pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in Human Resources, from the University of Calgary, graduating in 2018. With his academic background and practical experience, he currently holds the position of Executive Assistant at the Genesis Centre.
Nadeem Khan (He/Him)
Finance & HR Manager
Nadeem is a dedicated professional in the fields of Finance, admin and HR. He carries a degree in business administration. Before joining the Genesis administration team, he was on the Board and was member of Audit & Finance Committee for over six years. After moving to Canada in 2008, he worked for almost nine years with the City of Calgary in the fields of general administration, HR and Finance. Nadeem has been a passionate volunteer for over 30 years. He enjoys camping and hiking and the wonderful fresh mountain air.
Jonah Ardiel (He/Him)
Business Development Manager
Jonah first joined the Genesis Centre in 2017 under a one-year contract as part of the federal Canada 150 program. In 2018, he joined the organization’s Board of Directors, and then in 2019 was hired as the Business Development Manager. Jonah brings expertise in the fields of marketing and communications, organizational strategy, program coordination, and a broad knowledge of not-for-profits and charities across Calgary. Recreationally, Jonah spends as much time outdoors as he can hiking, cycling, jogging, and downhill skiing.
Doug Taggart (He/Him)
Building Operations Manager
Doug joined the Genesis team in April 2015. He provides leadership and operational experience to the Building Operations and Custodial department. He has 30 years of operational experience while working for the City of Calgary Recreation department. He operated Arenas and Athletic parks such as the Max Bell Centre and Shouldice Arena / Athletic park.
Shakil Shivji (He/Him)
Guest Experience Manager
Shakil, or Shak, joined the Genesis Centre back in 2017 and has been part of many different teams within the Genesis Centre. His front line experience includes being a Guest Services Associate, Facility Attendant, and Shift Lead. Serving the community has always been a big part of his life. Shak has a background in Guest Services, Psychology, and Computer Science. In his social pursuits, Shak actively engages in physical activities, immerses himself in the world of music as a private DJ, and dedicates his time to contributing to the Ismaili Muslim Community in diverse roles.

Stan Sandhu
President
Stan Sandhu, a seasoned professional, brings a wealth of experience from his nearly decade-long tenure as a Pricing Actuary at Intact Insurance and SGI Canada. His expertise lies in analyzing and setting prices for insurance products. Transitioning to public service, he served as Chief of Staff for Ward 5 from 2017 to 2021, gaining valuable insights into civic governance and community engagement. Stan’s commitment to community service led him to run for City Councillor in Calgary Ward 5 in October 2021, leveraging his extensive background as a community advocate for Northeast Calgary. Juggling multiple board positions, including President at the Genesis Centre and Board Director of the Alberta Motor Association, Stan remains dedicated to improving diversity, accessibility, and inclusivity, employing a holistic approach to enhance the quality of life for all in Northeast Calgary.
Sukhvinder Malhotra
Vice President
With a background in IT, Sukhvinder has been volunteering in the community through various roles since moving to Calgary from Ontario in 2007. He started building community connections by volunteering as a soccer coach for 4 years. He was involved with Khalsa School Calgary for 13 years since its opening in 2007, as Chairperson of the Parent Advisory Council and held various positions on the School Board for over 9 years, including the Board Chairperson. Sukhvinder has also been a part of the Nelson Mandela Parent Council and currently serves on the Saddle Ridge Community Association Board, as President of the Raven Ridge Condo Board and as a White Hat volunteer at Calgary Airport. He has a passion for giving back to the community in every way possible.
Yuvraj Singh
Secretary
Yuvraj Singh is a 3rd-year Biological Sciences undergraduate student at the University of Calgary. He is a student researcher, avid community leader and mentor for high school students. As a senior executive of the TUXIS Youth Parliament of Alberta and community organizer, providing resources for the vulnerable and academic support for students are key aspects of his outreach. He does this through community projects working with law enforcement, government officials, humanitarian organizations and schools across the city.
Amrinder Singh
Treasurer
Amrinder Singh, a Calgary resident since 2016 with a commerce background, transformed his passion for travel into a profession by founding the Canadian Travel House in 2016. The company earned IATA accreditation in 2022, showcasing Amrinder’s dedication to excellence. Serving as the Treasurer on the Executive Board of the Calgary & Cricket District League, established in 1908, he actively contributes to sports development and community engagement. Beyond his professional roles, Amrinder is distinguished by his keen eye for detail and sincere commitment to community betterment, exemplified through his innovative contributions to both the business landscape and the Calgary community he proudly calls home.
Greg Steiner
Director-at-Large
Greg is credited with the original vision for a recreational leisure centre on behalf of the northeast residents above McKnight Blvd. For 15 years he has worked tirelessly from the initial planning stages to the final opening of the new Genesis Centre of Community Wellness. Having served on the design, construction, and fund development committees, he continues to work towards accomplishing the overall vision and mandate of the Northeast Centre of Community Society (NECCS), of which he is a founding member. Having lived in Saddle Ridge for over 32 years, Greg has served in various executive capacities for Saddle Ridge Community Association, a founding partner of NECCS.
Wes Hynd
Director-at-Large
Wes, a community-focused leader with 15 years in non-profits, currently serves as a local church pastor and Community Association board member. He and his wife, Nadine, moved to Northeast Calgary to engage with and contribute to their community. They enjoy activities like playing with neighborhood kids, hosting gatherings, and fostering a safe environment. They are also in the process of adopting a child from Thailand. Wes previously worked with a student organization at Calgary’s universities, facilitating mentoring and discussions on life’s big questions, as well as directing overseas missions and partnerships in Latin America. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando. Wes is passionate about soccer, music, philosophy, and learning languages.
Bo Feng
Director-at-large
Bo has spent the majority of his life in Calgary and frequently visits recreational facilities to play sports and stay active. As a regular participant in sports and fitness, Bo looks forward to contributing strategic value to the Genesis Centre’s future and being an active leader within our communities. Growing up, he enjoyed basketball, soccer, badminton, and fitness – as he got older and experienced various sporting injuries, his focus shifted from actively participating in competitive sports to community and professional leadership. Professionally, Bo is a licensed professional engineer and worked in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors in Alberta and British Columbia. Bo holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Calgary, and is a Certified Associate in Project Management with the Project Management Institute. In his spare time, Bo enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling, and visiting car shows.
Al Louie

Born and raised in northeast Calgary, Al is passionate about helping individuals, organizations, and communities reach their full potential. Professionally, he is an experienced public servant that has led economic analysis for the Government of Ontario, budgeting processes for the City of Calgary, and energy and environmental initiatives for the Government of Canada. Outside of work, he enjoys running, travelling, attending athletic and cultural events, and volunteering on his condo board. Al holds a Bachelor of Arts from Gonzaga University, a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto, and is completing a Certificate in Organizational Coaching from the University of British Columbia.
Justin Dabu

With a deep-rooted commitment to health, wellness and community, Justin is a well-versed leader of 17 years. He brings a diverse set of skills from his work in for-profit, nonprofit and charitable organizations. In his role as Chief Program Officer at MNP Community & Sport Centre, Justin spearheads the development and implementation of both profit and purpose-driven programs and services. Justin prides himself as a life-long learner and is expected to achieve an MBA from Hult International Business School in Summer 2024. He is also completing a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University. During downtime, Justin enjoys playing basketball and pickleball, trying out new places to eat, and travelling – he especially loves road trips to the mountains along with his wife, Christina, and their two daughters.
Pulkit Gupta

Pulkit, an accomplished leader with a passion for community development and growth, has been an active member of the northeast landscape for a major part of his life. With a steadfast commitment to nonprofit organizations, Pulkit brings compelling vision and hands-on dedication to initiatives aimed at uplifting communities and individuals alike. Professionally, he is an experienced engineer and a certified project management professional, having worked in multiple industries including oil and gas, renewable energy and recently as a management consultant advising executive level leaders on developing value adding governance models and strategic frameworks. Pulkit is currently serving the public sector in the sustainable waste management team, focused on waste reduction, diversion and adoption of the circular economy model
Sabah Vayani

Drawing from her immigrant journey, Sabah brings a personal commitment to societal transformation, where equity and inclusion are not just goals but guiding principles. Currently serving within the National Resettlement Assistance Program of Canada, she brings a nuanced understanding of the public service landscape, navigating its complexities with insight into both challenges and opportunities. This experience exemplifies her approach to program design and implementation, highlighting the interconnectedness of the ecosystem and the value of interdisciplinary synergy. Sabah is dedicated to fostering a collaborative approach that blends diverse perspectives, believing that every voice contributes to the greater whole, driving systemic change through cohesive and inclusive actions. At the Genesis Centre, she has found the ideal platform to merge her personal and professional aspirations, enabling her to advance the Centre’s mission in addressing the diverse needs of its patrons. Outside of her work life, Sabah channels her artistic energy into surface design, DIY projects and food adventures. Finding endless inspiration in the vibrant world around her, she is constantly exploring new ideas and creative outlets.
