Additionally, it offers recreational opportunities to hundreds of thousands of users each year and hosts frequent large-scale public events. The contributions of dedicated volunteers and staff are integral to its operations.
In summer 2023, Genesis Centre proudly received funding from the Canadian Red Cross to establish a formal volunteer program. The program’s aim is to provide a structured platform for committed community champions to contribute to community development and programming through official volunteer agreements with Genesis Centre.

Want to help those in need?
Common Area Greeter – Responsible for spending time in the Common Area, greeting customers with courtesy, directing guests to events, providing information about the Genesis Centre, conversing with the partners (YMCA, Library, Trellis), keeping an eye out for any potential issues, and coordinating with the Commons Attendant on duty to complete tasks as assigned. Successful candidates will have an interest in helping guests and forming connections.
Sport & recreation
Do you enjoy sports and/or physical activity?
Drop-in Program Monitor – Responsible for checking wristbands, forming connections with our drop-in clients, assisting them, ensuring the correct use of Genesis equipment and enforcing the drop-in start and end times. Successful candidates will have strong communication skills and be interested in sports.

Special Events Assistant – Responsible for assisting with setup and takedowns of cultural and community events, crowd control, greeting guests, and other tasks as assigned. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic and the ability to do physical work.

Are there any specific qualifications or prior experience required to become a volunteer at the Genesis Centre?
We require all volunteers to complete a police check provided by the Genesis Centre. Volunteers under the age of 18 will need parental or guardian consent form. Some positions will require you to lift up to 20kg (45lbs) and sit stand or walk for periods of up to 3 hours. We do need a variety of skills and knowledge for certain positions, so we encourage individuals of various backgrounds to join our team.
How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?
Volunteer hours are flexible and entirely based on your availability. On average, volunteers typically commit to shifts lasting between 2 to 4 hours, with the option to choose 1 to 3 shifts per week.
Can this lead to a paid position?
Paid positions from the Genesis Centre come up from time to time. Preference is given to candidates with experience and familiarity with our facility. Volunteers will be given priority consideration for positions that match their qualifications.
